Fatal Greenville shooting death of Nolan Ward – Obituary

Greenville police have identified Nolan Ward, 27, as the man who was fatally shot by an officer on January 20, 2025.

Authorities say Ward was confronted after a report of a man with a gun who was threatening to harm himself at the ECU North Recreational Complex. When Ward reportedly raised his weapon at officers, he was shot.

Ward, a personal property appraiser for Beaufort County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Brandon Gilbert, a two-year veteran, has been placed on administrative duty while the SBI investigates the officer-involved shooting.
