A deadly shooting in Yazoo City claimed the life of 28-year-old Andrew Jackson early Saturday morning. According to Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers, Jackson suffered two gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting took place around 4 a.m. at the Yazoo Estates Apartment Complex. Police Chief Terry Gann stated that Jackson and two others were driving into the complex when gunfire erupted. More than a dozen shots were fired at their vehicle in what authorities believe was an ambush.
“This appears to have been a targeted attack,” Chief Gann explained. “As they entered the apartment complex, someone opened fire from behind one of the buildings.”
Investigators are still searching for a motive and the individuals responsible. Police have identified multiple persons of interest and are working to gather more evidence to determine what led to the attack.
Chief Gann emphasized the senseless nature of the killing, stating, “Taking someone’s life like this is tragic. He was someone’s son, possibly a brother, and even some of our officers knew him as a friend.”
Jackson, who was driving the vehicle at the time, was the only victim hit. The two other passengers emerged uninjured.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Yazoo City Police Department as they continue their investigation.
