A 79-year-old man, Roy George Pierce from Melbourne, tragically lost his life early Tuesday when the SUV he was in veered off the road and crashed into a retention pond.
The accident occurred around 5:52 a.m. on Stack Boulevard near Lake Waterford Way. Police responded to the scene and discovered the vehicle submerged in the pond after combing through the surrounding vegetation. Pierce was rescued from the vehicle and transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have stated that there is no indication of alcohol or drug involvement, and the investigation is still underway.
