Fatal North Las Vegas police shooting death of Alexander Mathis – Obituary
A shooting in North Las Vegas on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of 25-year-old Alexander Mathis and veteran police officer Jason Roscow, authorities confirmed.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, officers responded to a report of an armed individual threatening someone near Lone Mountain Road and Camino Al Norte just before 2:15 p.m. When officers arrived, the suspect, later identified as Mathis, ignored their commands and attempted to flee.
Police said that as Mathis approached Officer Roscow, an exchange of gunfire took place. Roscow, a 17-year member of the department and a father of two young boys, was shot multiple times but managed to return fire. Both Mathis and Roscow were transported to University Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
The Clark County coroner’s office determined that Roscow died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Mathis suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
The police investigation remains ongoing, with officials stating that additional details will be shared as they become available.
