Jeremy Labonte, a 24-year-old officer with the Roswell Police Department, was tragically killed in the line of duty on the evening of February 8, 2025. Labonte was responding to a call regarding a suspicious person at a shopping center when he was shot multiple times by the suspect, Edward Espinoza, 23.
Labonte was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Espinoza was quickly apprehended and faces multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and weapons charges.
The police department has honored Labonte by lowering their flags to half-staff, and public tributes are being accepted in his memory. He leaves behind a wife and a young son, and was just days away from a planned family vacation. His wife shared that they had been together since middle school and married for three years.
