Fatal Lafayette shooting death of Keiara Ledet – Obituary

A tragic shooting in Lafayette early Sunday morning claimed the life of 21-year-old Keiara Ledet. Authorities have confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

 

Lafayette Police were alerted to the situation around 1 a.m. when Ledet arrived at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after.

 

Investigators determined that the shooting took place on Pinhook Road near Carmel Drive. Following their inquiry, police identified 20-year-old Wikeem Smith as the suspected shooter. Smith was subsequently arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges including second-degree murder, resisting an officer, and possession of marijuana.

 

Authorities also discovered that Smith had an outstanding arrest warrant from Fort Smith, Arkansas.

 

The investigation remains active as officials continue gathering details about the circumstances surrounding Ledet’s death.
