Family, friends, and community members are mourning the loss of Joshua Kirkwood, the co-owner of a Waukegan restaurant, who was fatally stabbed over the weekend. His establishment, 41 14 Forty One Fourteen Steaks and Seafood, located at 2120 North Green Bay Road, now sits closed, marked by flowers, balloons, and a city notice citing safety concerns.
Kirkwood, 51, had dedicated himself to creating a welcoming space for brunch, karaoke, and games. Those who knew him are struggling to accept his sudden and tragic loss. “It just doesn’t seem real to me that he’s not there,” said Lake County Board member Mary Ross Cunningham.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Kirkwood was stabbed multiple times inside his restaurant on Saturday night. He was transported to Vista Medical Center East, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The community continues to grieve as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
