Fatal Douglas County bus crash death of Michael W. Meacham – Obituary

Authorities have identified 66-year-old Michael W. Meacham of Spokane as one of the four victims who lost their lives in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 28 near Rock Island on Sunday afternoon.

 

Meacham was driving a Northwestern Stagelines charter bus on its scheduled route from Seattle to Spokane when a Toyota Camry traveling westbound attempted to pass another vehicle and veered into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with the bus. The impact resulted in the deaths of Meacham, both 17-year-old occupants of the Camry from East Wenatchee, and a bus passenger who later succumbed to injuries at Confluence Health Hospital.

 

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Meanwhile, the bus company described Meacham as a “talented and dedicated” driver.

 

Authorities have not yet released the names of the teenage victims or the bus passenger who died. Seven other bus passengers sustained injuries in the incident.
