Authorities have identified 43-year-old Victoria Valadez as the victim of a deadly shooting in San Marcos. Law enforcement officials reported that the suspect, Juan Yanez, initially fled the scene but was later captured in Harris County.
The incident occurred on Friday, February 7, at approximately 2:29 p.m., when a man called 911 claiming he had “killed his wife” and “shot her” before abruptly ending the call. Dispatchers attempted to return the call multiple times but received no response.
Officers arrived at the home on the 800 block of River Road and found the back door open. Inside, they discovered Valadez with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators identified 47-year-old Juan Yanez as the suspect, linking him to the 911 call through his phone number. Authorities believe he had a relationship with Valadez before the incident.
Following the shooting, Yanez fled to Harris County, where he was later involved in an encounter with law enforcement. Deputies attempting to apprehend him reported that he tried to escape on foot, leading one officer to fire a weapon. However, officials confirmed that Yanez was not hit. He was eventually located and taken into custody.
Yanez has been charged with murder and is being held at the Hays County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
