Authorities in York County have charged a Newport News woman with manslaughter following the discovery of a man’s body along Route 17.
Deputies from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday morning after a passerby reported finding a deceased male near the shoulder of George Washington Memorial Highway.
Investigators later confirmed the victim as 43-year-old John Jairo Mosquera, who had been reported missing from Newport News on Saturday. Reports indicate that he was last seen leaving Hoss’s Deli around 1:10 a.m. that morning.
Authorities arrested 52-year-old Elizabeth Dodd Castro on Tuesday evening, charging her with felony involuntary manslaughter-DUI and felony hit-and-run with injuries. She is currently being held at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
No additional details have been released as the investigation continues.
