Thomas Mulvaney dies in fatal Midtown Sacramento fire
Fatal Midtown Sacramento fire death of Thomas Mulvaney – Obituary
Authorities have identified one of the victims who lost their life in a building fire in Midtown Sacramento early Tuesday morning.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 50-year-old Thomas Mulvaney was among those found deceased after firefighters put out the blaze.
Fire crews discovered Mulvaney, along with a woman and a dog, inside the structure at the corner of J and 19th streets. The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m., and heavy smoke initially made it difficult for firefighters to search the premises.
Officials later determined that although the building was considered vacant, evidence suggested people had been living there. “There were signs of human activity, including bedding and other materials,” an official stated.
The Midtown Association issued a statement thanking the Sacramento Fire Department for its rapid response, acknowledging ongoing efforts to address homelessness and prevent unauthorized occupancy in buildings.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, with their review focusing on the presence of human activity in the structure.
