Lower East Side murder death of Edwin Echevarria – Obituary
Christian Millet, 23, of New York City, has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of his 65-year-old roommate, Edwin Echevarria.
On February 5, the remains of Echevarria were discovered inside a suitcase floating in the East River.
Millet allegedly confessed to fatally assaulting Echevarria by knocking him to the ground and stamping on his head. He then dismembered Echevarria’s body and placed the remains in a suitcase.
Millet was arrested and charged with murder and concealment of a corpse after the discovery. Prosecutors revealed that Millet had expressed disturbing motives, claiming an “insane urge to kill” and a chilling comment about future violence.
Millet had no prior arrests in the city and is currently being held without bail. Echevarria was remembered by neighbors and family as a friendly and kind man, with his family expressing deep grief over the tragedy.
