A motorcycle accident early Friday morning in Dunedin claimed the life of 41-year-old Michael Gaffney, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Bayshore Boulevard when Gaffney, riding a red Kawasaki motorcycle, was reportedly traveling at a high speed. Deputies attempted a routine traffic stop, but Gaffney fled. Authorities did not pursue the motorcycle, and within three minutes, they received reports of a crash in the 1400 block of Bayshore Boulevard.
Investigators determined that Gaffney lost control of his motorcycle, veered off the roadway, and struck a guy wire attached to a facility pole. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
