Fatal Sangamon County head-on collision deaths of Leslie Foggy and Tammy Boyer – Obituary
Authorities have identified 63-year-old Leslie Foggy of Springfield and 43-year-old Tammy Boyer of Petersburg as the victims of a deadly head-on crash that occurred early Saturday morning in rural Sangamon County.
According to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon, Foggy was pronounced dead at the scene, while Boyer was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that both victims died from blunt force trauma sustained in the crash.
Illinois State Police reported that the collision happened around 2:30 a.m. on Illinois 97, just west of Farmington Cemetery Road. Investigators say a Mitsubishi Outlander traveling east veered across the centerline, colliding head-on with a Hyundai Sonata heading in the opposite direction. The reason behind the Outlander’s lane departure remains unknown.
Although several individuals stopped at the crash site after the incident, authorities stated that no one witnessed the actual collision. Route 97 was closed in both directions for approximately six hours while investigators worked at the scene.
State police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
