Fatal Central El Paso motorcycle crash death of Isabella Rose Mendez – Obituary
Isabella Rose Mendez, a 20-year-old woman from Las Cruces, was killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday morning in Central El Paso.
The accident occurred around 12:40 a.m. on March 3 along US-54 South near Interstate 10. Mendez was riding as a passenger on a 2013 Kawasaki Ninja driven by 23-year-old Nathan Verdugo, also of Las Cruces.
Authorities reported that Verdugo was traveling at high speed when he attempted to merge onto the I-10 West ramp. He lost control and struck a barrier on the left side of the road, ejecting Mendez from the motorcycle.
Mendez was pronounced dead at the scene. Verdugo sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.
El Paso police are investigating the crash, which marks the ninth traffic-related fatality in the city this year.
