Fatal Stoney Creek shooting death of Faizaan Awan – Obituary
Hamilton Police have identified 16-year-old Faizaan Awan from York Region as the victim of a deadly shooting that took place early Thursday morning in Stoney Creek.
Authorities received multiple 911 calls at around 4:20 a.m. regarding a shooting near Highway 8 and Fruitland Road. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that two vehicles had collided just east of the intersection.
Further investigation revealed that both vehicles, a white Kia and a red Acura, had been reported stolen from different locations. Awan was discovered inside the Acura, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, Awan had been driving eastbound on Highway 8 while being pursued at high speeds by at least three other vehicles for several blocks. The chase ended when the Acura and Kia collided, followed by multiple gunshots being fired at Awan’s vehicle.
After the shooting, several individuals fled the scene, both in vehicles and on foot. Police believe that at least one other person was inside the Acura with Awan at the time of the attack.
Acting Detective Sergeant Daryl Reid stated that investigators are still working to determine why Awan was in the area. “Tracking his movements leading up to the incident is a key part of our investigation,” he said during a press conference on Friday.
Reid emphasized that it is too early to determine a motive and urged members of the community to come forward with any information. “There are people out there who know what happened. We need their help,” he added.
Police are reviewing security camera footage and conducting interviews as the investigation continues.
