A tragic car crash in Durham early Friday morning has left two men dead and four others injured. The crash occurred around 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Roxboro Street when a 2014 Ford Fiesta driven by 20-year-old Jose Luis Berrioa veered off the road, struck a tree, and overturned.
Berrioa and passenger Oscar Meza, also 20, both from Durham, were killed in the crash. The remaining passengers, all in their 20s, were taken to a local hospital. Two are reported to have serious injuries, one is in critical condition, and one sustained minor injuries.
Authorities have indicated that speed likely played a role in the crash, though the investigation is ongoing. North Roxboro Street was temporarily closed during the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Investigator Colquitt.
