Fatal Fresno wrong-way crash deaths of Willianna Salas and Ximena Salas – Obituary

Authorities have identified the two young women who lost their lives in a fiery crash in Fresno earlier this week. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 19-year-old Willianna Salas and 20-year-old Ximena Salas, both Fresno residents, were the victims.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Highway 168 and McKinley Avenue. Officials began receiving calls about a wrong-way driver heading south on Highway 168 from Herndon to McKinley avenues.

CHP units were dispatched in an attempt to stop the vehicle, a 2005 Volvo, but before officers could intervene, they received another report indicating that the car had crashed and caught fire.

By the time law enforcement arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, making it impossible to rescue the occupants. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
