Scott W. Smith, a 49-year-old resident of Bloomington, lost his life in a two-vehicle collision on the city’s west side Saturday morning, according to the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Kathy Yoder confirmed that Smith sustained multiple blunt force injuries when two sedans collided at the intersection of Wylie Drive and West Market Street. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 8 a.m., and Smith was transported to Carle BroMenn Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead approximately 45 minutes later.
The second driver involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital but suffered only non-life-threatening injuries, police reported.
Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington acknowledged the rising number of fatal accidents in the community, emphasizing the importance of safe driving habits and increased enforcement efforts.
