Fatal Milwaukee police shooting death of Anthony R. Virginia – Obituary
Anthony R. Virginia, 41, was shot and killed by Milwaukee police officers on Saturday after authorities responded to a reported break-in on the city’s north side. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity.
The incident took place in the 5100 block of N. 32nd St., where officers were dispatched following a call about a burglary in progress. The caller reported that one of the suspects had fired a gun at them, according to Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman.
When officers arrived, they encountered Virginia and another armed suspect. Police ordered them to drop their weapons, and during the confrontation, Virginia was shot and killed. A 34-year-old suspect was taken into custody.
The officer who discharged his weapon is a 41-year-old veteran with ten years of service and has been placed on administrative duty, following department protocol. The Wauwatosa Police Department is handling the investigation.
Community members, including the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, have called for the release of body camera footage within 48 hours to the family, in line with department policy. By regulation, police have 15 days to make the footage available to the media and other requesters.
