William Bowen, 21, was fatally shot by Hartford police officers last Thursday after a confrontation on Homestead Avenue. According to the Connecticut Inspector General’s Office, police had been monitoring an Instagram Live feed where Bowen was seen carrying firearms. Authorities tracked Bowen to Homestead Avenue and attempted to arrest him after he discarded two guns during a chase.
Officers from the Greater Hartford Police Department Auto Theft Task Force, along with Detective Joseph Walsh, responded to the scene. Bowen, who was armed, was confronted by police and ultimately shot by Detective Walsh after a brief pursuit.
Hartford police rendered medical assistance to Bowen, but he was later pronounced dead at Saint Francis Hospital.
