Authorities in Jefferson Parish have confirmed the identities of a man and woman involved in a murder-suicide in Grand Isle. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the tragic incident, which took place on Tuesday morning.
Deputies responded to a home along the 2300 block of Louisiana Highway 1 after receiving reports of a homicide. Upon arrival, officers discovered that 79-year-old Robert Rickoll had fatally shot his 82-year-old wife, Brenda Rickoll, before taking his own life.
Sources indicate that Brenda Rickoll had been struggling with severe health issues, and her husband, who was serving as her primary caregiver, was overwhelmed by the demands of her care. Reports suggest that Robert Rickoll left a note implying that he felt he had no other way to continue providing for his wife.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
