Carole Hughes, an 80-year-old woman from Grand Ridge, Florida, tragically died in a crash on the Ross Clark Circle in Dothan on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. when Hughes’ vehicle collided head-on with an unmarked Dothan Police SUV near Planet Fitness.
Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd confirmed that Hughes died at the scene. The police officer involved in the crash was trapped in their vehicle but was later taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries. The officer is expected to return to duty with no restrictions.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is handling the investigation, which is a standard procedure when an officer is involved in a crash. The investigation may take up to six weeks.
