Ny’Asia Blue dies in fatal Hope Mills drive-by shooting
Fatal Hope Mills drive-by shooting death of Ny’Asia Blue – Obituary
Ny’Asia Blue, a 19-year-old daycare teacher, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in a drive-by shooting while she slept in her bed on Jockey Whip Lane in Hope Mills.
Neighbors in the Steeplechase neighborhood called 911 around 2 a.m. after hearing multiple gunshots, with one caller describing the sound as coming from an automatic weapon. Security footage from a nearby home captured the chilling screams of Blue’s mother upon discovering her daughter’s death.
Blue worked as an assistant teacher at Ms. Jo’s Childcare Center in Parkton. The daycare closed on Wednesday in her memory, displaying purple balloons and a heartfelt tribute on its door, encouraging others to honor her kindness and compassion.
She had moved into the home with her mother and two younger siblings last year following the death of her father in a dirt bike accident in Red Springs.
With no life insurance, her family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
Investigators are reviewing security footage from nearby homes in an effort to track down the suspect. Police believe the shooter fled in a dark-colored SUV.
Hope Mills Police Chief Stephen Dollinger assured the community that officers are committed to solving the case and urged anyone with information to contact authorities at 910-916-8919 or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
