Victor Zarate Avila dies in fatal West Side San Antonio crash
Fatal West Side San Antonio crash death of Victor Zarate Avila – Obituary
San Antonio police have taken a second suspect into custody following a deadly crash on the West Side over the weekend.
Authorities identified 28-year-old Juan Linares on Wednesday and charged him with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Earlier this week, 27-year-old Arthur Hugo Ruiz was also arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter involving a vehicle.
The crash, which claimed the life of 24-year-old Victor Zarate Avila, occurred early Saturday morning at approximately 12:40 a.m. at the intersection of West Travis and Northwest 24th streets.
Investigators determined that a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Ruiz, ran a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a Nissan Sentra, in which Linares was the driver and Avila was a passenger.
The force of the crash caused Avila to be ejected from the Nissan. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force injuries. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death an accident.
Following the collision, both Ruiz and Linares fled on foot. Officers located Ruiz a few blocks away, where he exhibited signs of intoxication. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries before being booked.
Details regarding the circumstances of Linares’ arrest have not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
