Fatal Atwater car crash death of Abraham Bustos – Obituary

A Good Samaritan lost his life early Sunday morning in Atwater while assisting victims of a crash on Highway 99.

Authorities identified the victim as Abraham Bustos, who had stopped to help after a vehicle collided with a guardrail and came to rest in the roadway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the initial crash occurred around 4:10 a.m. when 22-year-old Sincere Collins of Atwater, driving a GMC Arcadia, veered left for unknown reasons and struck the guardrail. Her vehicle ended up blocking the #1 lane.

Bustos pulled over to assist the driver and passengers when another vehicle, a Honda Civic driven by 23-year-old Yessica Partida of Merced, approached at an unknown speed. Partida failed to notice the disabled GMC in the roadway and crashed into the back of the vehicle before striking Bustos.

Bustos suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Collins and Partida were evaluated and arrested for DUI. Collins was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, while her passengers sustained moderate to major injuries. Partida also required medical treatment for moderate injuries.

In the wake of his passing, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support Bustos’ family. The page describes him as a compassionate person who was always willing to help others, emphasizing the deep pain his loss has brought to his loved ones.
