Three people lost their lives in a devastating wrong-way collision on Sunday afternoon in San Joaquin County. Authorities identified the victims as 25-year-old Angela Maldonado from Lockeford, 21-year-old Skyy Richardson from Stockton, and 37-year-old Simon Onesavanh from Stockton.
The crash occurred around 3:40 p.m. on Highway 12, just east of Clements Road, according to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators say a Ford Fiesta was heading east on the highway when the driver lost control for reasons that remain unclear. The vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a Toyota Tacoma traveling west.
According to the California Highway Patrol, none of the Ford’s occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The driver and two passengers inside the Ford suffered fatal injuries, while two additional passengers sustained serious injuries.
Authorities believe alcohol may have played a role in the incident, but the crash remains under investigation.
