Two children, 10-year-old Damien Montanez and his 9-year-old sister, Aaliyah Montanez, lost their lives in a tragic crash early Sunday morning in Napa.
The accident occurred just after 7 a.m. when the vehicle they were riding in veered off the road and collided with a tree near the southbound Highway 29 offramp to West Imola Avenue, as reported by the Napa County Coroner’s Office.
Their mother, 31-year-old Yesica Barajas, was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. She sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized in stable condition, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities suspect that alcohol may have played a role in the incident. Once Barajas recovers, she is expected to face charges in connection with the fatal crash.
