A woman was fatally shot in a church parking lot in Sacramento on Friday, according to authorities.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 50-year-old Dawn Nicole Wagner.
Police responded to the shooting at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, located near Center Parkway and Tangerine Avenue, shortly after 5:45 p.m. Investigators determined that Wagner and the suspect, 64-year-old John Binion, had attended a narcotics anonymous meeting at the church before the shooting. While the two knew each other, officials have not disclosed their relationship or a possible motive.
Following the incident, Binion surrendered himself at the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was interviewed and booked on homicide-related charges.
The Sacramento Police Department continues to investigate the case.
