A man has died after a tragic crash in South Omaha’s construction zone on Saturday night. According to Omaha Police, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near 31st and Q streets.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a white Nissan that had driven into a road construction zone, landing in a pit and crushing a black car underneath it. The driver of the black car, later identified as 44-year-old Francisco Hernandez Martinez, was found deceased at the scene.
The driver of the white Nissan initially fled but later returned and was arrested for DUI. He was not injured in the crash. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances, including how long the black car had been in the pit prior to the accident.
