Fatal Albuquerque shooting death of Julian Garcia – Obituary

Julian Garcia, 19, was shot by Albuquerque police officers on Thursday after being pursued in connection with a murder charge. According to the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), Garcia had a warrant for his arrest related to a fatal shooting in September 2024. The APD had been searching for Garcia after he was charged with murder in February.

The confrontation took place around 6 p.m. near Unser Boulevard and Sage Road when detectives made contact with Garcia. Police say Garcia attempted to flee, and as he was armed with a handgun, officers fired shots at him. As he neared the backyard of a nearby house, more shots were fired, and an officer struck Garcia. He was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition. No officers were injured in the incident.

Garcia was wanted in connection to a shooting that led to the death of his uncle, 34-year-old James Garcia, at 335 Grove Street SE. The incident occurred when 32-year-old Ezekiel Brown shot James Garcia in the face after asking if he remembered him. Two individuals returned fire, striking Brown before he collapsed. Witnesses later reported that Julian Garcia shot Brown multiple times at close range, resulting in his death. James Garcia was later taken to the hospital, where he died.

The investigation is ongoing, and Garcia remains in critical condition.
