A 39-year-old man from Hanna City, Keith Siegel, was found dead early Saturday, March 22, following a vehicle crash that occurred late Friday night. Deputies from the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash site in the 200 block of N. Third Street around 10:43 p.m. on March 21. Upon arrival, they found a dump truck in a ditch, but Siegel, the suspected driver, had fled on foot.
After hours of searching, deputies discovered Siegel’s unresponsive body at a business in the 12900 block of W. Farmington Road, about four hours later. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. Investigators believe Siegel may have fallen from a retaining wall and struck his head, based on witness testimony and security footage. An autopsy has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death.
The incident is under investigation by both the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
