Fatal Colonie pedestrian crash death of Migdalia Aulet – Obituary
On the morning of Friday, March 14, around 6:30 a.m., Colonie police responded to a tragic car-pedestrian collision on Wolf Road near Beltrone Drive.
They arrived to find a woman, later identified as 58-year-old Migdalia Aulet from Schenectady, lying in the road. The vehicle responsible for the incident had already fled the scene.
Witnesses reported that the car struck Aulet as she was crossing Wolf Road and then sped off without stopping. Despite efforts to save her, Aulet succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead at the scene. It was noted that she was not using a crosswalk when the collision occurred.
The Colonie Police Department launched an extensive investigation, pooling resources from various divisions to determine the cause and track down the driver. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect vehicle and, eventually, the arrest of 37-year-old Heath R. Mabeus from Clifton Park. Mabeus was taken into custody at his home on Sunday, March 16, without incident.
Authorities expressed gratitude for the assistance of Schenectady County Sheriff Dominic Dagostino and the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, whose contributions were critical in solving the case.
Mabeus faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a felony. He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court and was released on his own recognizance.
