Fatal Selma shooting spree death of Peggy Ratliff Small – Obituary
A violent shooting rampage in Selma, Alabama, left one woman dead and several others injured after 42-year-old Lorenzo Edwards attacked both his family and random victims, authorities said.
The incident began Wednesday evening at Edwards’ residence on Summerfield Road, where he shot his 43-year-old ex-wife in the face and their 14-year-old son in the head. Despite their injuries, both survived, and the ex-wife identified Edwards as the shooter while being placed in an ambulance. She also warned authorities that he might be heading toward her home.
Following this attack, Edwards began targeting strangers. He shot a third person, grazing their head, and then ran them over with his vehicle. A fourth victim was pistol-whipped, and Edwards attempted to shoot them, but his firearm jammed.
The deadly spree ended when Edwards fatally shot 70-year-old Peggy Ratliff Small, believing she was calling the police. Authorities later charged him with murder, attempted murder, and domestic violence.
Edwards remains in custody as investigators continue gathering evidence in this shocking case of domestic and random violence.
