Wilfredo Clemente Campo Alegre dies in fatal Miami stabbing
Fatal Miami stabbing death of Wilfredo Clemente Campo Alegre – Obituary
A 59-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of Wilfredo Clemente Campo Alegre outside a downtown Miami restaurant. Authorities say the attack, which occurred on February 5 in front of El Cacique restaurant, stemmed from a dispute over money.
Campo Alegre was discovered bleeding on the sidewalk outside 112 West Flagler Street and was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to a stab wound to his torso.
The investigation gained momentum through surveillance footage that captured Luis Acosta-Barbón, the suspect, leaving the scene on a white electric scooter. Although he had no fixed address at the time, an anonymous tip led police to him in the Allapattah neighborhood near Northwest 17th Avenue and 23rd Street. Officers stopped him, issued a traffic citation, and arrested him for resisting without violence before linking him to the homicide.
During questioning at the homicide division, Acosta-Barbón denied knowing the victim, even though surveillance footage placed him at the crime scene. He later made a statement, but it was excluded from the official report.
A key witness told authorities that days before the stabbing, Campo Alegre mentioned owing money to someone known as “Flaco”—a nickname also associated with Acosta-Barbón. This led to his identification in a police lineup.
At a recent court hearing, a judge ruled that there was enough evidence to proceed with second-degree murder charges. Acosta-Barbón remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center without bail as the investigation continues. Authorities have not ruled out further developments in the case.
