The family of Anaya Zachary, a 14-year-old girl shot and killed at a Baytown apartment complex playground on March 21, is calling for justice. Anaya was allegedly shot by a fellow Goose Creek CISD student, who has been charged with murder. The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. on Village Lane after an altercation earlier that day.
According to Anaya’s family, the male suspect, after being dropped off from school, returned home, grabbed a gun, and went to the apartment complex. Once there, he shot Anaya multiple times as she tried to flee.
Anaya’s mother, who lives in Louisiana, has been left devastated by the loss, with the family noting that Anaya had been brought to Baytown for a better life.
Anaya’s family believes that the suspect’s parents should be held responsible for their son’s access to the gun. While the Baytown Police Department has yet to determine whether the parents will face charges, they continue to investigate the incident.
A memorial for Anaya has been set up at the site of the shooting, and her body has been returned to Louisiana for funeral arrangements.
