Fatal Sacramento church shooting death of Dawn Nicole Wagner – Obituary
Authorities have identified 50-year-old Dawn Nicole Wagner as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Friday in the parking lot of a Sacramento church.
Wagner was pronounced dead around 5:45 p.m. near the 7500 block of Center Parkway, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where she had been seeking comfort and support, expressed condolences for her family and the community affected by her passing.
The church released a statement acknowledging the tragedy, offering prayers for Wagner’s loved ones, and calling for unity and healing in the wake of the incident.
The shooting took place while a Narcotics Anonymous meeting was happening at the church, though authorities clarified that the incident was unrelated to the gathering.
John Albert Binion, 64, of Sacramento, later turned himself in at the Sacramento County Main Jail, admitting to shooting Wagner. He was subsequently arrested and charged with felony murder, along with an additional charge for firearm possession by a felon. Jail records indicate he is being held without bail.
Binion was arraigned Tuesday in Sacramento County Superior Court as investigators continued working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
