Fatal Glenarm car fire death of Laquita Harris – Obituary
Authorities have identified Laquita Harris, a 28-year-old Springfield resident, as the victim of a deadly vehicle fire near Glenarm.
According to preliminary autopsy results, Harris succumbed to smoke inhalation and severe burns sustained in the fire, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed.
The incident occurred on March 22 when the Divernon Fire Protection District responded to a burning Kia SUV in the 600 block of Horse Farm Road. A witness had called 911 at approximately 10:14 a.m. after noticing smoke coming from the vehicle.
Firefighters arrived to extinguish the flames and discovered Harris’ body inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
The witness who reported the fire stated that the Kia had been parked on the roadway before it ignited but did not see anyone inside before the flames spread.
Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the fire.
