Fatal Polkton shooting death of Mianna Roach – Obituary

Authorities have identified six-year-old Mianna Roach as the victim of a tragic shooting in Polkton, North Carolina, early Monday morning. Her father, Michael Roach, is accused of abducting her and fatally shooting her before turning the gun on himself during a police chase.

According to investigators, Mianna’s mother called 911 around 3 a.m., reporting that Michael Roach had entered her room with a firearm, taken their daughter, and fled in her SUV. Law enforcement issued an alert for the vehicle, but an Amber Alert was not activated due to the lack of legal custody documentation.

At approximately 8 a.m., deputies from the Anson County Sheriff’s Office located the SUV and initiated a pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed on Little Creek Road near Old Winfield Road in Wadesboro.

Upon reaching the scene, officers found Mianna inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead. Authorities believe Roach shot her during the pursuit before attempting to take his own life. He was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, where he remains in critical condition.

Polkton Police Chief Tim Hutchinson stated that no officers fired weapons during the incident, and the crash itself did not cause the child’s death. Investigators from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to piece together the full sequence of events.

Mianna’s family has expressed their deep sorrow, stating that they are watching the situation closely as the investigation continues.
