Fatal Gage Park attacks death of Richard Romo and Rita Chavez – Obituary
Richard Romo, 63, and Rita Chavez, 64, both from Chicago, tragically lost their lives in what authorities now believe were connected attacks in Gage Park on Sunday night, March 23, 2025.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 5300 block of South Kedzie Avenue just before 10 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the two victims inside an apartment building.
Romo had suffered a gunshot wound to his head, while Chavez had multiple injuries to her body, including stab wounds. A relative of Romo confirmed that Chavez was his girlfriend.
The incidents are now believed to be connected to a second attack that occurred just after 10 p.m. at a nearby sports bar. Authorities are continuing to investigate the events surrounding these tragic deaths.
