Vilamalia Polina Tu’ipulotu, a 22-year-old woman from San Mateo, tragically lost her life in a crash in Pittsburg on Sunday, March 23, 2025. She was caught in the middle of a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle evading the police.
Tu’ipulotu, who was on her way home with her fiancé, Beaux Tagaloa, from a family gathering, died at the scene. Tagaloa, a college football player, remains in critical condition.
The pursuit began when California Highway Patrol officers spotted a stolen car speeding over 100 mph, which eventually collided with Tu’ipulotu and Tagaloa’s SUV at East Leland Road and Gladstone Drive. Tu’ipulotu was the youngest of six siblings and was preparing for a summer wedding.
Her family has expressed deep grief, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral costs. The crash is under investigation by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
