Fatal Carbon County bicycle crash death of Jancel Santos-Perez – Obituary

A tragic accident in Carbon County claimed the life of 30-year-old Jancel Santos-Perez of Beaver Meadows after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.

 

According to Carbon County Coroner Mark Smith, the incident occurred on Tuesday along Spring Mountain Road in Banks Township. Santos-Perez was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:55 p.m. due to blunt force injuries. His death was ruled accidental.

 

State police reported that an 87-year-old woman from Weatherly was driving west on Spring Mountain Road near Route 93 when she collided with two cyclists heading in the same direction. Her vehicle’s right bumper struck the bicycles, causing one rider to be thrown onto the car’s roof, then onto the windshield, before landing approximately 100 feet from the initial impact.

 

The second cyclist, a 39-year-old woman from Beaver Meadows, was thrown off to the right side of the road but survived with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

 

After the collision, the driver continued west before stopping in a parking lot at the intersection of Route 93. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
