Marcus Gifford, a 28-year-old man from Roseville, California, died on March 22, 2025, after a police chase in Washoe County. The incident began early in the morning when Gifford allegedly attempted an armed carjacking, leading to a series of events that saw him carjack another vehicle before being pursued by authorities.
The chase ended when Gifford crashed into a tree near Sutro Street. As officers tried to apprehend him, Gifford shot himself fatally in the head. Authorities have ruled the death a suicide. Investigators also linked Gifford to a prior armed kidnapping in Roseville. The Reno Police Department is currently leading the investigation into the incident.
