Fatal Olivehurst SWAT shooting death of Osmar Rodarte – Obituary
The Marysville Police Department has identified Officer Osmar Rodarte as the SWAT officer who was fatally shot while executing a search warrant in Olivehurst on Wednesday morning.
Rodarte, who had served with the department for two years, was involved in a large-scale operation when the shooting occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. He was transported to Adventist Health and Rideout hospital in Marysville, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities from multiple counties, including Yuba, Sutter, Butte, and Tehama, were serving warrants as part of an effort to dismantle a suspected transnational drug trafficking organization. During a confrontation inside an Olivehurst residence, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in Rodarte being shot. One suspect was killed at the scene, while another was taken into custody.
Rodarte, a U.S. Army veteran, leaves behind a wife and child. He was a graduate of the Sacramento police academy and was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated officer who served with honor and integrity.
The police department expressed its grief, calling Rodarte not only a respected officer but also a friend and hero to the community. Memorial service details have yet to be announced.
A law enforcement procession in his honor is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, beginning at Lakeside Chapel in Marysville and proceeding to Placer County.
