Charles Briscoe, 61, was killed Wednesday night in Louisville after a collision involving a police officer’s vehicle on Fern Valley Road near Jeanine Drive, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).
The crash occurred around 9 p.m. when Officer Alyssa Begel, who was responding to an EMS call, collided with Briscoe’s vehicle. Authorities stated that Briscoe’s vehicle turned in front of the officer’s cruiser, though they did not clarify whether the cruiser had its emergency lights or sirens activated at the time.
Briscoe was declared dead at the scene. Officer Begel was transported to the hospital and released the following day.
Begel, who has served on the force since 2022, has received 22 commendations and three reprimands, including one related to a crash in October 2023 in which she was found to be at fault. The crash that took Briscoe’s life remains under investigation.
