Alex Coleman Jr. and Laquell Collins die in fatal South Austin car crash
Fatal South Austin car crash death of Alex Coleman Jr. and Laquell Collins – Obituary
Two men lost their lives early Sunday morning in a violent car crash on Chicago’s West Side after a collision at the intersection of West Augusta Boulevard and North Central Avenue. Authorities say the crash occurred around 2 a.m. when 36-year-old Alex Coleman Jr., traveling east in a dark-colored sedan, ran a red light and crashed into another sedan that was moving south at high speed.
Following the initial impact, one of the sedans also collided with the front of a beige minivan that was approaching the intersection. The force of the crash propelled both sedans into the front yards of two nearby homes in South Austin.
Coleman was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The second driver, 22-year-old Laquell Collins, also succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. A 35-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the same vehicle as Collins, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
The 45-year-old man driving the minivan declined medical treatment at the scene. The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents unit is handling the ongoing investigation.
