Authorities have identified 26-year-old Austin Rodrigues of Rutland as the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning.
The incident took place around 2:45 a.m. at a residence on 43 Summer Street, where police discovered Rodrigues with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the case is being treated as a homicide.
Investigators have interviewed multiple individuals related to the shooting, though no arrests have been made at this time. Officials believe the event was an isolated occurrence and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Rutland City Police Chief Brian Kilcullen explained that officers arrived quickly, secured the scene, and began a thorough investigation with support from the Vermont State Police. Rodrigues’ body has been sent for autopsy by the medical examiner.
