Fatal Manteca scooter crash death of Steven Wilson – Obituary

A 57-year-old Manteca man, Steven Wilson, lost his life Friday evening after being hit by a car while riding an electric scooter with family, according to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Around 8:20 p.m., Wilson was traveling south along the east side of North Airport Way when he attempted to cross to the west side of the road. During the crossing, a vehicle struck him. His daughter and brother, who were also on scooters, remained on the east side and were not part of the accident.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and tried to save Wilson’s life. He was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old Manteca resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Authorities have not released the driver’s name.

Police stated that the area lacked street lighting, and it remains unclear whether Wilson had lights on his scooter or was wearing a helmet. Investigators also haven’t disclosed the speeds of either the vehicle or the scooter or confirmed if traffic rules were followed.

The incident remains under investigation.
