Carlos Enriquez dies in fatal South Bay police shooting

Fatal South Bay police shooting death of Carlos Enriquez – Obituary.

Carlos Enriquez, 56, was identified as the suspect fatally shot by police in Bonita, California, after an incident that occurred early Saturday morning on April 20, 2025. At approximately 5:41 a.m., officers responded to a report of a family disturbance involving a firearm on Country Vistas Lane. Upon arrival, police found family members hiding outside the residence and learned that Enriquez was inside the house with access to multiple firearms.

When Enriquez exited the house, officers gave him commands to raise his hands, but he initially kept his hands in his pockets. As he removed his hands, a firearm fell from his pocket. Despite commands to move away from the weapon, Enriquez sat down and placed the gun on his lap. Officers continued to give verbal commands for several minutes, but when Enriquez picked up the gun and pointed it toward the officers, three officers responded by firing their rifles, striking him. Enriquez was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The officers involved, who have been with the Chula Vista Patrol Division for various lengths of service, were identified as Agent Thomas Luhta, Officer Alfonso Perdomo, and Officer Roman Buyson. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers.
