Fatal Colorado Springs motorcycle crash death of John Elrod – Obituary

John Elrod, 66, has been identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office as the motorcyclist who died following a collision with a trash truck in Colorado Springs. The crash took place on April 16 at the intersection of East Cheyenne Road and Southgate Road.

Elrod was riding westbound when he reportedly failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection. According to authorities, he struck the front of a car and then became trapped beneath the trash truck ahead of it. The truck driver was aware of the impact but did not realize Elrod was lodged underneath the vehicle.

Emergency responders transported Elrod to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police continue to investigate the crash and its contributing factors.
